The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
Mahatma Gandhi

The need for reliable alternatives to animal testing is an important moral animal welfare issue. The importance of the need does not stop there, however. Government authorities do not have adequate time to thoroughly evaluate animal test data for more than a small fraction of the chemicals being marketed.   At the same time, the rising cost of animal testing for new chemicals is a major economic factor for the chemical industry.

Creating non-testing alternatives to today's animal tests, therefore, is a common ground for progress on multiple fronts. The International QSAR Foundation's vision is to reduce reliance on animal tests without loss of public safety, by using the emerging virtual technology called QSAR to predict animal test results without tests.
